Uploading your first resume
Which file types work, the 10 MB limit, what the analyzer does with your file, and what to do when a scanned PDF will not read.

Before you upload
The Resume Analyzer accepts PDF and DOCX files up to 10 MB. It lives at Dashboard, then Resume Analyzer.
One thing catches people out: the file needs to contain real text. A scanned image saved as a PDF has no text layer, so there is nothing to analyze. If you only have a scan, export a text-based PDF or DOCX from your editor instead. When this happens you will see the message "We couldn't read any text from your file" rather than a broken score.
What happens when you upload
- We extract the text from your file. For PDFs we first try structured extraction that preserves your section layout, with a plain-text fallback if that fails.
- Two things run at once: the ATS analysis that produces your score, and a section extraction that maps your summary, skills, experience, education, and projects.
- Your results appear on the same page, replacing the uploader. They are also saved to your account, so they follow you across devices.
The whole run typically takes under a minute.
How many scans you get
- Free: 1 scan per day
- Basic: 3 scans per day
- Pro and Premium: unlimited
The counter resets at midnight. Re-scores triggered by live edits do not count against it.
After your first scan
Your score card shows the overall 0 to 100 score and a breakdown across eight areas. Read Understanding your ATS score for what the number means and what to fix first. From there, most people go to Resume Studio to apply the suggestions, or to tailoring once they have a specific job in mind.
