Role Summary
Temporal has a lot worth talking about: a deeply technical product, an active developer community, ambitious work in AI and distributed systems, and people across the company producing useful ideas, demos, talks, launches, and stories.
We are looking for a Social Media Manager to turn that work into a consistent, credible, and distinctive social presence. You will own Temporal’s brand channels and the operating system behind them, from editorial planning and contributor coordination through writing, publishing, community engagement, and performance analysis.
You will be part of Temporal’s creative studio and work as a close partner to our Creative Producer and Developer Relations team. The Creative Producer will lead the production of original formats such as video series and visual storytelling. Developer Relations will bring technical expertise, developer education, and direct community insight. You will connect that work: identifying opportunities, building the calendar, keeping contributors and assets on track, packaging content for each platform, and making sure strong ideas reach the right audience.
This is not a role where you wait for finished content and schedule it. You will bring your own editorial judgment, understand what developers care about, and create the systems that help the studio and its partners publish reliably. You will also use AI and automation to increase the team’s capacity without compromising technical accuracy, brand voice, or human judgment.
What You’ll Do
- Own Temporal’s day-to-day social media presence across its primary brand channels, including channel priorities, audience strategy, publishing cadence, and growth goals.
- Build and maintain a forward-looking editorial calendar that brings together product launches, Developer Relations programs, creative productions, events, community stories, company moments, and timely industry conversations.
- Run the social production workflow from intake through publication. Turn ideas into clear briefs, establish deadlines and dependencies, coordinate drafts and creative assets, manage reviews and approvals, and keep contributors accountable to the plan.
- Write and publish platform-native posts in Temporal’s voice. Adapt the format, hook, technical depth, and call to action for each audience rather than distributing the same copy everywhere.
- Work closely with Developer Relations to identify useful technical stories, package talks and educational material for social distribution, and turn community questions and conversations into content opportunities.
- Partner with the Creative Producer on social-first videos, recurring series, carousels, launch campaigns, and other original formats. Provide clear briefs informed by channel behavior and performance.
- Develop launch and event plans that cover pre-launch buildup, day-of publishing, partner and employee amplification, community engagement, and post-launch follow-through.
- Participate in developer conversations with judgment and credibility. Monitor replies, mentions, community discussions, and relevant industry news; respond directly when appropriate and route technical questions or sensitive issues to the right people.
- Build repeatable systems for repurposing talks, livestreams, demos, blog posts, documentation, podcasts, events, and community contributions without making the resulting content feel generic or repetitive.
- Use AI and automation to improve content intake, research, drafting, repurposing, technical and editorial quality assurance, scheduling, social listening, and reporting. Document the workflows you build and measure whether they improve speed, consistency, or output.
- Establish a practical measurement framework for social. Track reach, meaningful engagement, audience growth, referral traffic, video performance, share of voice, and other indicators tied to Temporal’s goals.
- Run regular performance reviews with the creative studio and its partners. Explain what worked, what did not, what the team learned, and what should change in the calendar or production plan.
- Maintain strong publishing and account-governance practices, including permissions, approval paths, accessibility, link tracking, platform requirements, and response protocols.
- Make informed decisions about new channels and formats. Test them with a clear hypothesis, evaluate the results, and recommend where Temporal should invest or stop investing.
What You’ll Bring
- Experience owning social media for a developer-facing, infrastructure, open-source, enterprise software, or technically sophisticated brand.
- A portfolio of posts, campaigns, and social programs you personally helped create and operate. You can explain the strategy, your contribution, the results, and what you learned.
- Excellent writing and editorial judgment. You can make a technical idea concise and compelling without stripping away what makes it true, useful, or interesting.
- Technical fluency developed through software engineering, Developer Relations, technical marketing, developer content, or comparable hands-on work. You can read technical documentation, understand code and architecture at a useful level, interview engineers, and recognize when a claim needs expert review.
- Familiarity with software infrastructure, distributed systems, developer tools, cloud platforms, APIs, or adjacent technical areas, along with the ability to learn Temporal’s product and community.
- Experience managing a multi-channel editorial calendar and the production workflows behind it. You create clarity around owners, briefs, assets, deadlines, reviews, and approvals.
- The confidence and persistence to keep work moving across a collaborative organization, including following up with busy contributors and surfacing risks before they become missed publishing moments.
- Strong knowledge of the norms, formats, and audience behavior of channels such as X, LinkedIn, YouTube, Reddit, and developer communities.
- Experience using performance data to form hypotheses, run experiments, and change a content or channel strategy.
- Hands-on experience using AI tools in a professional content workflow, with a thoughtful perspective on where automation helps and where human judgment must remain in control.
- Independent judgment. You can spot a promising story, define what it needs, assemble the right collaborators, and carry it through publication without waiting for a complete brief.
Nice to Have
- Professional software engineering experience or experience building technical projects independently.
- Experience creating automations or lightweight internal tools with APIs, agents, workflow platforms, scripts, or no-code systems.
- Familiarity with Temporal, durable execution, distributed systems, microservices, or reliable AI applications.
- Experience working closely with Developer Relations, engineering, product marketing, communications, or open-source community teams.
- Basic video editing, design, motion, or visual-production skills. You do not need to be the studio’s primary producer, but you can make lightweight assets and give useful creative feedback.
- Experience supporting developer events, product launches, livestreams, or real-time social coverage.
- Experience with social publishing, listening, analytics, and project-management platforms.
