About Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal SDET who brings strong engineering fundamentals, deep automation capability, and a passion for quality in distributed, cloud-based systems. This role involves designing test strategies, improving automation frameworks, and working closely with developers to ensure the reliability and security of complex backup workflows.

You will contribute across the full lifecycle - from feature design and white-box testing to deployment and validation in cloud environments.

Principal Software Development Engineer (Principal SDET) Roles and Responsibilities

  • Be part of the Agile development team and work closely with developers.
  • AI-Driven Quality Engineering : Evaluate, champion, and integrate AI-assisted testing tools and Generative AI workflows to accelerate test case generation, automation, and bug analysis.
  • Develop a deep understanding of product features and enhancements, including functional specifications and design, with a focus on automated and manual, white-box and black-box testing.
  • Plan, create, and manage the overall quality strategy.
  • Collaborate with developers during product design reviews and provide inputs on functional requirements to improve testability and automation.
  • Own end-to-end QA for medium to complex features.
  • Collaborate across teams to strategize and plan long-term solutions for overall product and feature quality.
  • Identify quality gaps and drive action items to address them.
  • Develop and maintain a model to estimate automation ROI and continuously improve it.
  • Evaluate and recommend new quality tools, technologies, and methodologies to improve productivity and quality.
  • Plan test cycles, provide estimates, monitor and track progress, and participate in bug triaging and quality metrics tracking.
  • Mentor and guide other SDETs on the team.
  • Ensure timely builds and effectively manage product deployments.
  • Drive reduction of overall COGS/Opex for test infrastructure.
  • Design and architect modular, scalable, and reusable automated testing solutions.

Key Skills

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, troubleshooting, and debugging skills.
  • AI Tooling & Awareness : Practical experience with AI coding assistants (e.g., Copilot, Claude, Cursor) for code generation and debugging, with awareness of AI-driven testing solutions.
  • Strong knowledge of QA methodologies, tools, and processes.
  • Ability to estimate, prioritize, and plan work with technical leads.
  • Good understanding of operating systems (Windows and Linux).
  • Understanding of threads, multiprocessing
  • Good understanding of basic networking concepts.
  • Experience with bug and test management tools such as Jira, TestRail, etc.
  • Experience with version control systems such as Git, SVN, etc.
  • Good shell scripting skills.
  • Strong programming skills in one or more languages such as Python, Java.
  • Familiarity with virtualization technologies such as VMware and Hyper-V.
  • Familiarity with cloud architecture and concepts.
  • Experience with security, scale, and performance testing.
  • Experience with SQL/NoSQL databases such as MySQL, Oracle, SQL Server, MongoDB, Cassandra, etc.
  • Experience building automation pipelines and working with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins.
  • Experience designing automation frameworks and tools.
  • Knowledge of front-end web application test automation tools such as Selenium, Cypress, or Puppeteer.
  • Knowledge of RESTful APIs and API testing/automation.
  • Understanding of Agile testing methodologies, test pyramid, and quality metrics.
  • Experience with white-box testing and methodologies such as TDD and BDD.
  • Experience mentoring QA/SDET teams.
