Renewals Manager
As a member of our growing Renewals team, you will be instrumental in defining, testing, and scaling a renewals model that balances high-volume scale with top-down positioning across the Japan market. Based in our Tokyo office, you will partner closely with customers and internal stakeholders such as Account Executives, Customer Success Managers, Finance, and Legal to ensure Asana customers are set up for continued success from their Asana investment. Your primary focus will be managing customer renewals to maximize retention, identify expansion opportunities, and drive a high degree of customer satisfaction. You will play a critical role in protecting and growing Asana's customer base by proactively managing renewal risk, demonstrating customer value, and driving timely contract execution.
This role is based in our Tokyo office with an office-centric hybrid schedule. The standard in-office days are Tuesday, Thursday and one additional day of choice, which may be determined by your team. Most Asanas have the option to work from home on the two other weekdays they are not in office. If you're interviewing for this role, your recruiter will share more about the in-office requirements.
What you’ll achieve
- Own, drive, and lead the renewals process for customers in the Japan market, in collaboration with the account team, to preserve and improve customer contracts and relationships.
- Actively engage with key decision-makers to understand customer requirements, demonstrate the value of Asana, and uncover roadblocks to ensure on-time renewals.
- Negotiate and execute renewal contracts that align with customer goals in partnership with Finance and Legal.
- Engage with at-risk customers and develop prescriptive strategies to mitigate potential churn and improve retention.
- Communicate renewal risk clearly, take the lead in developing resolution strategies, and escalate wherever appropriate.
- Discover and identify upsell and cross-sell opportunities during the renewal process to maximize customer growth.
- Maintain and report an accurate 90–120-day rolling forecast of renewals and proactively manage risks and opportunities within the forecast.
- Track and contribute to key business outcomes, including Renewal Rate, Net Retention Rate (NRR), renewal attainment, and expansion.
- Maintain accurate customer and renewal information in Salesforce and other relevant systems.
- Assist with enhancing and improving systems, tools, and processes to increase team efficiency and scalability.
About you
- Demonstrates curiosity about AI tools and emerging technologies, with a willingness to learn and leverage them to enhance productivity, collaboration, or decision-making.
- Business-level fluency in Japanese and English.
- 2–5 years of experience in customer-facing SaaS roles, such as software/subscription renewals, account management, sales, customer success, or Deal Desk, with experience managing commercial conversations and customer relationships.
- Experience managing commercial negotiations, discovery, value selling, and closing, with a track record of achieving business or revenue targets.
- Comfortable working with technology and business systems such as Salesforce, Asana, and other SaaS tools, with the ability to quickly learn and adopt new technologies.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with clear written and verbal communication and the ability to manage a book of business effectively.
- Strong collaborative spirit when partnering with Sales, Customer Success, Finance, Legal, and other cross-functional teams to achieve shared goals.
- Ability to drive momentum and on-time renewals by connecting dots across large organizations, influencing stakeholders, and fostering collaboration.
- Ability to understand customers’ business challenges and translate those needs into relevant, value-based solutions and recommendations.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while balancing multiple customer priorities, managing renewal risk, and maintaining high customer satisfaction.
