Job Description

Come join the dream team. We're rapidly expanding Agentic Playbook, ServiceNow's platform for sequencing work between AI Agents , automations , and people across enterprise applications. It combines the power of AI , the predictability and performance of automated flows , and the judgment of humans-in-the-loop — all within a single governed process running on ServiceNow's enterprise Flow Engine.

Agentic Playbooks can be built using a drag-and-drop diagram experience or agentically with tools like Build Agent . Once running, multiple stakeholders can interact with a Playbook through an AI-native UI that updates in real time, or conversationally across channels like Teams and Slack — including through MCP , which lets external AI assistants interact with a running Playbook directly. This dramatically reduces the engineering expertise required to automate a multi-step process, and makes it possible to create compelling, dynamic user experiences that would otherwise take a specialized team to build. As a Sr Staff Software Engineer you will be designing architecture that will unlock the next generation of automated process design and execution, enabling our customers to be efficient in their work.
You will use your experience building modern web experiences and your expertise in performance, architecture, and object-oriented design to push the boundaries of our platform.
You will also collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to develop new and improve on existing platform features.
Build highly interactive web-based application UIs that can scale with application complexity
Create tools, libraries, and frameworks for other developers to build upon
Work with a strong set of teams to improve developing and deploying applications and customizations
Apply new technology and innovation to improve platform functionality
Deliver and outstanding experience for our customers
Be a mentor for colleagues and help promote knowledge-sharing

Qualifications

12+ years of experience building scalable software applications using Java or a similar object-oriented programming language
Strong experience with JavaScript or TypeScript and modern frontend engineering practices
Experience with React, Angular, Vue, or similar UI frameworks
Strong foundation in data structures, algorithms, object-oriented design, and performance optimization
Experience building reusable, maintainable systems and components for large-scale applications
Proven ability to solve significant technical problems with broad impact across teams or product areas
Demonstrated expertise in architecture, technical strategy, and driving complex initiatives from design through delivery
Experience mentoring engineers and influencing engineering excellence through reviews, standards, and technical leadership
Practical experience using AI-assisted coding tools to improve development workflows and engineering productivity
Good judgment in applying emerging agentic development capabilities without compromising quality, security, or maintainability
Strong analytical and software design skills
