Job Description

Position Summary The Supplier Quality Engineer is responsible for leading the claims process for Electronic Rack (ER) components. In this role, you will serve as the primary technical liaison between external suppliers and internal manufacturing teams to ensure the seamless delivery of defect-free materials. Excellent written and oral communication skills are critical to this position. The professionalism, quality, and accuracy demonstrated in this role directly impact the plant's daily operational efficiency, cost-of-quality metrics, and overall internal and external customer satisfaction.

Other duties may be assigned to meet business needs.

  • Direct Supplier Issues: Act as the primary owner of the supplier complaint and chargeback processes, driving accountability for quality failures.
  • Lead Root Cause Investigations: Direct the troubleshooting and resolution of supplier-related quality issues using structured problem-solving methodologies (8D process, Shainin, 5-Why, Fishbone).
  • Cross-Functional Failure Analysis: Collaborate with Engineering and Customer Quality teams to support failure analyses on potential supplier defects reported by end customers.
  • System Compliance & Portal Integration: Ensure external suppliers actively utilize and comply with standard Bosch digital portals (including SupplyOn and IQS).
  • Containment Coordination: Coordinate and manage immediate sorting, containment, and rework activities when defective material is detected.
  • Supplier Performance Monitoring: Identify, track, and manage low-performing suppliers ("Top Suppliers") through structured escalation programs.
  • Concession Management: Review, coordinate, and process concessions and deviations related to external supplier components.
  • Part Approval Process (PPAP): Verify that complete PPAP documentation or formal component releases are fully approved for all electronic components prior to production.
  • Technical Drawing & Spec Alignment: Review and clarify technical drawing and engineering specifications with Metrology Technicians to ensure inspection capability.
  • Measurement Alignment: Coordinate measurement homologation (gauge repeatability and reproducibility) between Bosch and supplier metrology labs to resolve measurement discrepancies.
  • Safe Launch Execution: Actively participate in "Safe Launch" control plans and early production containment activities for new or modified supplier components.
  • Ensure Line Continuity: Proactively safeguard the continuous flow of defect-free materials to production lines, minimizing downtime and scrap.
  • Master Data Maintenance (SAP): Perform and manage component quality setups in SAP, including Q-Info Records, Quality Setups, and Inspection Plans.
  • Plant-Level Engagement: Actively participate in plant-level operational meetings (Focus meetings, CIP/Continuous Improvement Process initiatives, and specialized training).
  • Audits & Standards Compliance: Promote and support compliance with BPS (Bosch Production System), CIP, 5S standards, ESD protection, and Automotive Quality Management Systems (IATF 16949 / ISO 9001).
  • Audit Support: Actively participate in customer audits for FleP (Plant), demonstrating robust control over supplier-related processes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from a four-year College or University in Mechanical Engineering, Process Engineering, or Industrial Engineering with 3+ years of experience in quality assurance or supplier quality; OR in lieu of a degree, 8+ years of quality assurance or supplier quality experience with a High School diploma or GED.

  • Demonstrated team collaboration and cross-functional communication skills.
  • SAP experience, particularly with Q-Info Records, Quality Setups, and Inspection Plans.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite applications.
  • Experience with APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning), including reviewing supplier FMEAs (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) and Control Plans.
  • Knowledge of structured problem-solving methodologies such as 8D, 5-Why analysis, Fishbone diagrams, or Shainin techniques.
  • Familiarity with automotive quality management systems, including IATF 16949 and ISO 9001 standards.
  • Experience with supplier quality portals and digital collaboration platforms (such as SupplyOn or similar systems).
